May - 2, 2008 - Friday - Time: 10.00 am Oaks Mission School
Oaks, OK — Jacob and Duvall visit students at Oaks Mission School in northeast Oklahoma. Students from pre-K to senior high will be treated to stories and songs about the characters of Cherokee tradition. We'll show their future illustrators and writers the mechanics of storyboarding and building books. This school lies in the historically significant area once known as New Spring Place, so named by Moravian missionaries who traveled with the Cherokees across the Trail of Tears into Indian Territory. It was named after Spring Place in Georgia, where Moravians first taught Cherokee students using Sequoyah's syllabary as a basis.

Tahlequah, Oklahoma — Debbie and Murv are invited to speak at the May meeting of Tahlequah's Garden Club on the subject of edible wild plants. We'll focus on plants that are readily identifiable and available around Tahlequah. Research for this presentation has been eye-opening. If you're ever lost in those Oklahoma Hills, keep in mind dandelion, cattails, the beechnut and pine trees... practically the entire plants are edible and nutritious.
